Shaping a Brand Within an Historical Context

Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station serves over 11 million rail passengers annually. It is also on the National Register of Historic Places thereby requiring that any modifications to the building meet the stringent requirements of the State Historic Preservation Office. In order to accommodate anticipated double-digit increases in ridership, C&VE worked with Amtrak, SEPTA, and Penn DOT to implement a station-wide signage program that improves orientation and wayfinding and is sensitive to the historic nature of the building. The program also serves to brand the facility as a pivotal Amtrak Station. With travel by air and auto becoming more of an endurance sport, travel by train is quickly becoming the mode of choice for a growing number of people. Improving the travel experience for business and leisure passengers along the North East Corridor is critical to the continued economic viability of the region. The project had is debut in the summer of 2015.
